On the 14th of July, our secretary general Abdullah Mohtadi, held a speech during the Iranian democratic council conference regarding the current situation in Iran. Within this speech, he stressed that Iran is facing a new phase, one in which we witnessed new trends with regards to the Iranian society, the political system and thoughts and attitudes.
'In recent years, Iranian society has completely opened its doors to democracy, freedom, reconciliation of human rights and citizenship rights, to reconciling concepts despite the policies of the Islamic Republic, despite the ruling culture, the emergence of ideas such as equal rights for women and men, changing patterns of life and living standards of young people. Changing attitudes have changed the behavior patterns of families, the need and interest of the new generation for interaction, friendship and communication with the outside world, the denial of religious tyranny and the increase in religious tolerance among the Iranian people, which are all irresistible trends.'
What distinguishes the current movement from the former ones is its variation, its plurality. Normal laborers on the one hand, women, inhabitants of the Baluchi and Sistan provinces, Arabs of Khuzestan, the Kurds, LGBTs, the youth and the unemployed on the other. What this shows is is that differences do not divide, but that a common interest in an inclusive Iran unite.
